Srila Prabhupada explains in his purports the government should protect Mother Bhumi, the animals, and all the citizens.
He states that when there is no work to be found, the government should provide jobs for the citizens. He states the government should ensure the needs and the desires of the citizens should be met, and that taxes should be levied to secure the wealth to do make those things happen.
This translates to environmental protections (the left has been the champion for them and the right has always opposed them), Social Security, universal health care, government job programs if needed, food stamps, social services for the poor so no one goes with out, etc. The Right has opposed all of these things while the Left has fought for them.
The Left ended child labor and was responsible for safer working conditions, the 40 hour work week, civil rights, voting rights, laws against pollution, etc. These things are consistent with what Prabhupada says the government should be doing.
Yup....that is socialism and definitely left.
Read the 4th canto and see the advocacy for a caring, pro-active government and then compare it to the agenda of the Right. Left looks pretty good from that point of view.
Give up your political bias and adopt the views of the 4th canto...that is my not so humble request."
