Serious Vishnu Bhaktas, like the folks at all Hare Krishna centers, willbe growing Tulasi as a regular course of their lives. They will haveseeds and or small plants to share. However, they are protective about the plants. Some will not give themout to outsiders who are not "initiated" in Vishnu Bhakti throughsurrender to Guru etc. This is to protect Srimati Tulasi Devi from abuse. You can find Tulasi as an ingredient in many Ayurvedic medicines. StrictVaisnavas get great pains seeing that Tulasi is being slaughtered for medicine. The only time Vaisnavas will eat Tulasi leaf or flower is after is hasbeen offered to Vishnu or Krishna on the altar, otherwise they considerher STRICTLY to be the property of Krishna, like other divineparaphanelia or personalities, and therefore, not to be "taken"whimsically by us at any time.
- Prabhupada decia que era extremamente ofensivo hacer por ejemplo té de hojas de tulasi como recomienda el Ayurveda.
- Never use Tulasi leaves or flowers to make teas or juices, even after they've been offered to Krishna. It is a great offense to cook or heat Tulasi, or to use her for mundane purposes, such as medicines and ointments.
- Si no recuerdo mal, Goura Kisor das babaji se alimentaba básicamente de hojas de Tulasi.
- Yo no estaba, pero me acuerdo.

When Prabhupada came to Hawaii in 1971, he admired our lush Tulasi garden in front of the entrance to the temple. Because these Tulasis had grown far larger than we had expected (some nearly seven feet tall and with stalks two inches in diameter), we had a problem. The Tulasi branches were beginning to cover the entrance, and people unavoidably brushed up against her. We pointed this out to Srila Prabhupada and asked his permission to trim some of the branches. He became alarmed and exclaimed, “You cannot cut Tulasi—that is the greatest offense! You must never cut her. But you can tie back the branches obstructing the entrance.”Even after tying back the branches, Tulasi kept growing, and the problem continued. When we told Srila Prabhupada that people had to bend down when passing through the Tulasi archway on the way into the temple, he was delighted. He smiled, his eyes sparkled, and he said, “That’s good. It is good that they have to bow to Tulasi before entering Krishna’s temple.”When Srila Prabhupada came for a later visit, he carefully entered the Tulasi archway by going through sideways to avoid brushing against her leaves and branches. And while walking along the walkway to the temple, which was lined with more Tulasi plants, he told his secretary, Syamasundara, “Don’t step on her shadow.” In these ways Srila Prabhupada showed great respect for Tulasi Devi.

So we can see that service to Tulasi devi is both an honour and privilege. Tulasi’s Spiritual form can never be harmed as she is always with Krsna, but her form as a plant will need tender loving care and thoughtful nurturing.Srila Prabhupada has stated that “Srimati Tulasi devi is the spiritual barometer of the community or household and where she flourishes, devotion to Lord Krsna is present.”

Tulasi for medicine is an offense? - posted in The Hare...INDIADIVINE.ORG -
Ayurvedic medicine may recommend the use of Tulasi but our ultimateauthority is not Ayur Veda or the Ayur Vedic kaviraj. Our ultimate authority is Krishna, the sad-agamas and the Vaishnavas. Therefore the vaishnava principle overrides the other here. For example garlic and onion is recommended to be of good medicinal valuebut vaishnava principle is to avoid them.

Experts say the use of animal products is a longstanding...TIMESOFINDIA.INDIATIMES.COMVerídico -
I heard that Ayurveda oils and medicines use animal organs and fat. How true is it? If true then, then ancient saints and sages used to experiment with animals and also kill them for medicines? Not all medicines, but certain medicinal preparations use it as per prescription. Ayurveda medicinal preparations refer to 84 classical authorities for recipes. viz... Ashtanga Hridayam, Bhaishajya Ratnavali, Bhava Prakasham, Rasa Chandanshu, Sahasrayogam, Rasa Yoga Ratnakara, Sushruta Samhita, Siddha Yoga Samgraha, Yogaratnasangraha etc.30% of these books have recipes involving blood, flesh, bones, cow-urine, dung etc for certain high-end and effective medicines. You can cross check with these books. Most of the people don't care due to lack of understanding of Sanskrit. For eg.Chaga, Aja means goat and Changamamsa or Ajamamsa means goat flesh.Ajapitta means bile of the Goat.Rudhira means blood.Amisa means flesh.Vasa means fat.Majja means bone marrow.Asti means bone.Mutra means Urine.Karisa, Vit means Dung.So next time when you look at the list of ingredients and you find such words, you know what it is.Understand that anything beneficial to man is at the expense of other living beings. Most of the medicines using such formulations are highly effective and cures the illness. You can talk to any traditional Ayurveda doctor for confirming this. People here are simply denying based on religious sentiments. Its sad and true, but better than people eating animal flesh for pleasure.
