"Keep trained up very rigidly and then you are bona fide Guru, and you can accept disciples on the same principle. But as a matter of etiquette it is the custom that during the lifetime of your Spiritual master you bring the prospective disciples to him, and IN HIS ABSENCE or disappearance you can accept disciples without any limitation. This is the law of disciplic succession. I want to see my disciples become bona fide Spiritual Master and spread Krishna consciousness very widely, that will make me and Krishna very happy." (Srila AC Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada)Letter, New Delhi, 2 December, 1975

Women, who so desired, could undergo the sacred thread ceremony or 'Upanayana' (a sacrament to pursue Vedic studies), which is only meant for males even to this day. The mention of female scholars and sages of the Vedic age like Vac, Ambhrni, Romasa, Gargi, Khona in the Vedic lore corroborates this view. These highly intelligent and greatly learned women, who chose the path of Vedic studies, were called 'brahmavadinis', and women who opted out of education for married life were called 'sadyovadhus'. Co-education seems to have existed in this period and both the sexes got equal attention from the teacher. Moreover, ladies from the Kshatriya caste received martial arts courses and arms training.

Caste is a terrible perversion of the original Vedic varna system. Anyone who has the qualities of a brahmana is eligible to receive this initiation, regardless of their race, ethnicity, gender or parentage.

In Vedic times, according to the records of the Vedic scriptures, both woman and men were given such sacred threads.

Srila Prabhupada not gave the thread to women just to not shock even more his spiritual brothers :D :D :D

And of course in Iskcon we are not going to start giving thread to women. But this does not mean that a woman can not be Diksa Guru and cannot initiate male disciples in the Brahma Gayatri and give them the thread just because she does not use it.

She does not use it, BUT SHE DAILY RECITE BRAHMA GAYATRI. AND THIS IS MOST IMPORTANT.

Finnaly, in Kali Yuga, a person's spiritual position will be ascertained merely according to external symbols (Brahmana Thread) and a person will be known as a Brahmana just by his wearing a thread.

The discussion here (or anywhere else) is not whether someone is qualified or not.

But if women can be Diksa Gurus in Kali Yuga. And it is possible.

Now, if someone is qualified to do so or not. This is another conversation.
